Donuts and croquet

28-07-2014

Yesterday morning we had our first lectures of this week. The class I’m taking this week is called: Business strategy, innovation, organisations and markets. Yesterday’s lectures were about strategic planning and how companies (should) use strategic planning to succeed. We applied this to executive search firms, also known as headhunters, which was really interesting.

In the afternoon went to Primark because a friend of mine needed some new clothes. We also had a donut at Dunkin’ Donuts, which was a first for both of us. A little after we got back we went to the park to play croquet. I had played croquet in Oxford already, but it was a bit different because here we played in teams of two. The game started a bit slowly but towards the end, when the tension built up, it was a lot of fun. We really tried our best and believe it or not, we won!

After dinner there was an evening talk about leadership. The ideas the speaker had were refreshing but I wasn’t really charmed by the way he presented them. Nonetheless it was a good talk that got you thinking about what makes a great leader. Love, Iris
